My 3 Keys to Success Part 3: The Power of Heart

As we continue our journey through the three keys to success—strength, heart, and intelligence—today, we’re going to focus on the second key: Heart. In the world of business, especially in digital entrepreneurship, heart is often the most overlooked yet crucial element that can make or break your success. While strength gives you the power to persevere and intelligence guides your decisions, heart is the force that connects you to others, fuels your passion, and makes your work truly meaningful.

Heart is what transforms a business from a mere transaction into a relationship. It’s what turns customers into loyal supporters, and it’s what makes your brand resonate on a deeper level. But how do you cultivate heart in your business? How do you infuse your work with the passion and authenticity that sets you apart in a crowded marketplace? Let me take you deeper into the concept of heart, sharing my personal experiences and practical insights to inspire you to lead with heart in everything you do.

The Legacy of Heart: My Grandmother’s Story

When I think about heart, I think about my grandmother. She was the embodiment of heart—someone who lived her life with passion, love, and an unwavering commitment to making a difference in the lives of others. She wasn’t just a caregiver; she was a creator, an entrepreneur in her own right, and a connector of people.

My grandmother was the driving force behind our family, providing not just love and care but also a sense of purpose and direction. She wrote a successful cookbook called "Ethnic Eggrolls," a project that wasn’t just about sharing recipes but about preserving our cultural heritage and bringing people together through food. She also led a world-renowned senior hula group, a testament to her ability to connect with others and share joy through dance and community.

Her heart was in everything she did. She didn’t pursue these projects for fame or fortune—she did them because they brought her joy and allowed her to share that joy with others. That’s the essence of heart in business. It’s about finding what you love, what you’re passionate about, and using that passion to make a difference in the lives of others.

Her legacy lives on in me, and it’s the foundation of everything I do in my business. When I started Lovingood Studios, I knew that I wanted to build a company that wasn’t just about generating revenue but about creating something meaningful. I wanted to connect with people, share stories, and help brands find their voice in the digital world. That’s what heart is all about—using your passion to create something that resonates deeply with others.

Heart in Business: Creating Authentic Connections

In today’s fast-paced digital world, it’s easy to get caught up in the numbers—followers, likes, shares, conversions. But behind every statistic is a person, someone who is looking for connection, authenticity, and value. Heart is what allows you to see beyond the numbers and focus on the human element of your business.

When I work with clients, I always start by asking, “What’s your story? What’s the heart of your brand?” Because that’s what people connect with—not just the products or services you offer, but the story behind them. When you lead with heart, you’re not just selling; you’re sharing a piece of yourself, your values, and your vision.

One of the most powerful examples of this is the work I’ve done with brands like Disney and Vimeo. These are companies that understand the power of storytelling and connection. Disney, for instance, is not just a brand—it’s a collection of stories that have touched the hearts of millions around the world. Whether it’s through animated films, theme parks, or merchandise, Disney leads with heart by creating experiences that resonate with people of all ages.

At Lovingood Studios, I’ve made it my mission to help brands tap into that same power of storytelling and connection. Whether it’s through social media campaigns, digital content, or branding strategies, my goal is to help my clients share their heart with the world. Because I believe that when you lead with heart, you create something that lasts—something that people remember and come back to time and time again.

Building Heart: Practical Steps for Entrepreneurs

So, how do you build heart in your own business? How do you infuse your work with the passion and authenticity that will set you apart? Here are some practical steps that have helped me, and that I believe can help you too:

1. Discover Your “Why”

Heart starts with understanding your “why.” Why are you in business? What drives you? What are you passionate about? Your “why” is the heart of your brand, and it’s what will guide you through the ups and downs of entrepreneurship.

Take the time to reflect on your motivations and values. What are you trying to achieve? What impact do you want to have on the world? When you’re clear on your “why,” it becomes easier to make decisions that align with your values and to create content and strategies that resonate with your audience.

2. Tell Your Story

People connect with stories, not products. One of the most effective ways to lead with heart in your business is by sharing your story—your journey, your challenges, your successes. Be open, be vulnerable, and let people see the real you.

When I started Lovingood Studios, I didn’t shy away from sharing my personal story—the struggles I faced growing up, the lessons I learned from my family, and the challenges I overcame to build my business. By sharing my story, I was able to connect with my audience on a deeper level, and that connection has been the foundation of my success.

3. Focus on Relationships, Not Transactions

Heart is about building relationships, not just making sales. In today’s digital world, it’s easy to get caught up in the numbers, but remember that behind every click, every purchase, is a person. Focus on creating value, providing excellent service, and building long-term relationships with your customers.

At Lovingood Studios, I’ve always prioritized relationships over transactions. I take the time to get to know my clients, understand their needs, and work with them to create solutions that are tailored to their goals. By focusing on relationships, I’ve been able to build a loyal client base and create a business that’s not just successful, but also fulfilling.

4. Lead with Empathy

Empathy is at the heart of connection. It’s about understanding the needs, desires, and challenges of your audience and using that understanding to create products, services, and content that truly resonate.

When I work on a new project, I always start by putting myself in the shoes of my audience. What are their pain points? What are they looking for? How can I create something that not only meets their needs but also adds value to their lives? By leading with empathy, you can create a brand that truly connects with people on a human level.

The Heart of Your Brand

Heart is not just an abstract concept—it’s the driving force behind everything you do in your business. It’s the passion that fuels your creativity, the empathy that connects you with others, and the authenticity that sets you apart in a crowded marketplace.

As you continue on your entrepreneurial journey, I encourage you to lead with heart in everything you do. Take the time to discover your “why,” share your story, build meaningful relationships, and lead with empathy. When you lead with heart, you’re not just building a business—you’re creating something that matters, something that makes a difference in the lives of others.

In the next part of this series, we’ll explore the third key to success: Intelligence. But for now, I challenge you to take a moment to reflect on the heart of your business. What drives you? What impact do you want to have? How can you lead with heart in everything you do? Your heart is your greatest asset—use it to create something truly extraordinary.

Remember, the heart of your business is not just about what you do, but why you do it. And when you lead with heart, you create a legacy that will last for generations to come.
